Going Boldly Where No Woman Has Gone Before

Star Trek Voyager has many limitations, much of which lie in the lack of ingenuity or originality that the previous Star Trek series had. However, it does have its moments. One of them lies in the 6th season “Fair Haven” episode, where Captain Kathryn Janeway meets an interesting character on the holodeck, and proceeds to alter his computer specifications to suit her tastes, including the command, “delete the wife”.

KJ: You want a confession, Doctor? Alright… I’ve become romantically involved with a hologram – if it’s possible.
Doc: What happened?
KJ: Oh, you know the story: girl meets boy, girl modifies boy’s subroutines…
Doc: Did you have intimate relations?
KJ: That’s – none of your business. Let’s just say it was a memorable three days.
Doc: I don’t see the problem.
KJ: Don’t you? Michael Sullivan is exactly my type – attractive, intelligent, we share the same interests. And if there’s something I don’t like – I can simply change it.
Doc: I’ve noticed that humans generally try to change the people they fall in love with. What’s the difference?
KJ: In this case, it works!
